The new STS cranes strengthen the potential of the Baltic Hub.

STS (ship-to-shore) cranes, intended for the ongoing servicing of container ships arriving at the Baltic Hub, have arrived at the newest T3 quay. The Zhen Hua 36 vessel delivered four fully assembled STS cranes that will operate on this quay. Each crane weighs almost 2,000 tons and is over 96 meters high when at rest and 140 meters when the boom is raised. The overhead cranes were manufactured by the Chinese company ZPMC, which is the world's largest manufacturer of this type of equipment. The T3 quay is planned to handle the first container ships in 2025, and its launch is expected to increase the reloading capacity of Baltic Hub by 1.5 million TEU.

The Port of Gdynia is strengthening its position.

The Port of Gdynia, as one of the most important transport hubs and the largest grain port in the region, is strengthening its position on the market. In the first nine months of 2024, it achieved an impressive result of 20.3 million tons of transshipment. Particularly noticeable is the increase in the general cargo segment - the largest cargo group in terms of tonnage - which reached 11.9 million tons, which means a dynamics of 108.9% compared to 2023.

A modern tour terminal will change Klaipėda.

A modern cruise terminal will be built in the central part of Klaipeda, which will revolutionize the appearance of the port waterfront and adapt it to the requirements of modern tourism. The project includes both the modernization and construction of new quays with depths enabling the handling of larger cruise ships. The terminal will also include a modern administration building, the construction of which has already been approved. This investment will not only increase the port's capacity, enabling it to handle more ships and tourists, but will also enrich Klaipėda with new urban areas, increasing its attractiveness on the international arena. The terminal will become a place of recreation and meetings for both residents and tourists - an amphitheater with a view of the sea, walking and cycling paths, and space for organizing events will be built. The Port Authority building will include cafes, a conference room and a rooftop observation deck. The Port of Klaipėda is preparing to welcome more than 60 cruise ships next year, with the first scheduled for February.

A new railway era for the Port of Gdynia.

PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe announces the completion of work on improving rail access to the Port of Gdynia. The project, worth nearly PLN 1.9 billion net, aims to quickly and safely transport more cargo by rail in a shorter time, which will help reduce the number of trucks on the roads. Thanks to the completed modernization, Gdynia Port station can now handle trains with a length of 750 meters (previously 500 meters) and an axle load of 22.5 tons, which allows for the transport of more goods. The project built almost 115 km of new tracks and 359 turnouts; Additionally, two new viaducts, 640 and 170 meters long, increased the capacity of the routes leading to the port. The total cost of the investment "Improving rail access to the sea port in Gdynia" amounted to nearly PLN 1.9 billion net, of which almost 43% comes from EU funding under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

Solar hydrofoil created by students of the Gdańsk University of Technology.

Students from the scientific club of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Shipbuilding KSTO Korab won second place in the Sardinia Innovative Boat Week competition, where they stood out by presenting Solar - a hydrofoil they created from scratch, powered by solar energy. Solar uses energy generated by seven solar panels mounted on board. Thanks to hydrofoil technology, the hydrofoil floats above the water, which significantly reduces drag and allows it to achieve higher speeds with less energy consumption.

Autonomous Hornet boat: an innovation of the Gdańsk University of Technology.

Scientists from the Gdańsk University of Technology have developed an autonomous Hornet boat, designed to research the bottom of the Baltic Sea and protect and inspect Polish offshore installations, such as offshore wind farms. In the future, the boat will be used to inspect shipping channels and patrol maritime areas, identifying the presence of unwanted objects. Hornet is also intended to be used to monitor offshore structures, including wind farms. It was also recalled that the Gdańsk University of Technology is a partner of the NATO DIANA project, and on its campus the first so-called NATO DIANA living lab, a place for presenting the latest technologies and inventions in the defense sector, developed by scientists and military personnel from NATO countries.

PLN 24 Million for Financing the Oceania Sailing Ship.

The Minister of Science and Higher Education decided to provide additional financial support for the Oceania research vessel, allocating PLN 8 million annually for the next three years, amounting to PLN 24 million in total. Oceania, a sailing ship built in 1985 in the Gdańsk Shipyard, is owned by the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. This institute is the largest center in Poland conducting research in the field of physics, chemistry, biology and ecology of the sea. Every year, Oceania spends approximately 250 days at sea, including: research expeditions in the Arctic and numerous cruises on the Baltic Sea.
