Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Rector
of the Gdańsk University of Technology from 2019 to 2024 and from 2024 to 2028.
Scientific career
Prof. Wilde before he became a rector, he served as the dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the PG environment three times. He gained international organizational experience at foreign universities, including At the University of Tokania, where he obtained a doctoral degree and started working, finally obtaining the position of associate professor. He specializes in bridge structures, building mechanics and diagnostics of building structures. He is the author or co -author of over 200 publications and 4 patents. In 2016, he became a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. It has about 1,900 citations (without self-citations) at the Web of Science Core Collection database and the Hirsch 23 index. Rector's function in 2019-2024 being a rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology, prof. Wilde together with the university's academic community introduced many qualitative changes that create the best possible development conditions for students and employees. He included strategic goals in the 11th Strategy of the Development of the Gdańsk University of Technology for 2020-2030 ″ and on this basis he successively implemented key activities:
Science and education
• obtaining the status of a Research University and effective implementation of the IDUB program "Initiative
of Excellence – Research University," with a positive mid-term evaluation of the program by the International Team of Experts in cooperation with the Ministry of Science in 2023,
• the most frequently cited scientists in the world – in the ranking of the top 2% of researchers
in the world in 2024, the university has as many as 62 scientists, which is 9 more than a year ago.
Professor
Grzegorz Boczkaj is among the absolutely elite group of the 1% of most frequently cited scientists. He is one of only six Poles in this ranking.
• publications in "11Science" – for the first time in the university's history, articles by scientists from Gdańsk University of Technology
were published twice in 2023 in the prestigious journal "11Science":
they were published by Dr. Eng. Arch. Karolina Zielińska-Dąbkowska and Dr. Eng. Miłosz Wieczór.
• obtaining very good results in the last evaluation of scientific disciplines
conducted at Gdańsk University of Technology,
• establishing the Center for Modern Education and creating a comprehensive system
of support for teaching activities.
Human resources
• establishing the HR Center and the Young Scientists Office,
• launching a Gdańsk University of Technology kindergarten for the children of employees and students,
• developing a university friendly to employees with children.
• implementing numerous pro-student initiatives, including Gdańsk University of Technology student zones.
IN FRASTRU KTU RA
• co-leading the STOS Competence Center project and the construction of the facility
housing the Kraken supercomputer – an award in the Construction of the Year 2023 competition
organized by the Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians in
cooperation with the Ministry of Development and Technology,
• Eco-Innovation Center,
• revitalization of the Hydromechanika building – an award for the best architectural project in Gdańsk
in 2021.
Cooperation in Poland and abroad
In 2023, Prof. Wilde was elected co-chair of the Board of Directors of the ENHANCE European University – an international consortium of leading technical universities such as the Zurich University of Technology (ETH Zurich) – considered one of the world’s best technical universities, and Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) – the largest and oldest technical university in the Netherlands. He co-founded the Fahrenheit University Association (FarU) in 2019, which includes the Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology, and the University of Gdańsk. This was one of the most important events in the academic history of Gdańsk, paving the way for the future federalization of the region's strongest universities, which intend to jointly build the city's position as a strong academic center in Poland and abroad.
Professor Wilde was then elected for the first term as Chairman of the FarU Assembly. He is the president of the Pomeranian District Chamber of Civil Engineers, the chairman of the Academic Sports Committee of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Academic Schools, and the president of AZS Gdańsk (AZS Environmental Organization Gdańsk), also a member of the Main Board of the Academic Sports Association. In his work, he focuses on the integration of the world of science with business, as evidenced by the Pomeranian business award "Pomeranian Eagle", which he received in 2023 as the rector of Gdańsk University of Technology for the consistent implementation of the development strategy as a modern, European a technical university and the initiator of ventures and projects recognized in Poland and around the world. In his private life, he is a husband, father of three, and guardian of two Border Collies. In his free time, he enjoys sailing, skiing, and motorcycling.
