Ambassador Øystein Bø has extensive diplomatic and security policy experience. He assumed his position
as Norway's Ambassador to Poland at the end of August 2023. From 2018 to 2022, he served as Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Norway to NATO and from 2006 to 2010 as Deputy Permanent Representative.
After returning from Brussels in 2022, he was appointed Special Representative for Security Policy of the Nordic and Baltic Countries, with the primary task of supporting Finland and Sweden on their path to NATO membership.
From 2013 to 2017, he served as State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Defence under Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide. From 2010, he was Head of the International Department of the Norwegian Parliament and, until 2013, Permanent Secretary of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence. From 2002 to 2006, Bø served as head of cabinet to two Norwegian foreign ministers
(Petersen and Støre).
Bø holds a Master's degree in Law and was seconded in 1997 as legal advisor to Carl Bildt during his term as
High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina. He has held various positions in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served in the Norwegian delegation to the CSCE/OSCE and at the Norwegian Embassy in Tallinn.
Ambassador Bø was appointed Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit. On September 11, 2015, he received the US Navy Distinguished Public Service Award. Øystein Bø was born in 1959, is married, and has two children.
